Best Restaurants Toronto

Are you visiting Toronto and looking for the best spots to eat and drink? As a tourist, I still like to find the local gems in a city. Toronto is a foodie’s paradise, with so much diversity and ethnic foods, along with some unique finds. Check out these best restaurants in Toronto for your next visit.

Pai

Named for the Thai village where Nuit Regular and her husband opened their first restaurant, Pai is perpetually busy. If you have never had khao soi, I recommend it here, especially with the braised beef (which is an unusual pairing). The spicy coconut curry broth and tender beef go well with the chewy noodles. Found on the Michelin Guide, I loved Pai so much; I came here twice on my last visit to Toronto. The Thai iced tea is also so sweet and robust. The menu is full of Northern Thai favorites, as well as some fusion dishes that are always a crowd pleaser. Come early or be prepared for a small wait. They offer an extensive beer and drinks list, so you can grab a drink while you wait. There are a couple of locations in the city, but I like the downstairs vibe on Duncan Street.  Cashless restaurant.

The Well

The newly opened Wellington Market on Front Street offers a taste of Toronto’s culinary finds. Located in the basement of the premium shopping center, The Well food market is an upscale food court. Try the healthy pho bowls at Tong Mein or the lobster rolls Blue Claw. Save room for mochi donuts from Isabella’s Donuts, a unique spin on a classic. It’s easy for everyone to find something here.

Light Café

When I saw the menu at Light Cafe, I knew I had found my people. Southern gourmet cooking meets Asian cuisine. There are so many spins on the Asian classics, like a fried mapo tofu sandwich or kimchi beef croissants. The extensive brunch menu and drink list with smoothies, teas and lattes make it a great spot for a slow Sunday, but it has limited seating, so be prepared for a wait.

Queen Garden Centre

A local recommended this hidden gem, and I’m so glad she did. This garden center offers a small café in the middle, serving custom coffees and teas, along with amazing pastries. The blueberry scone is the best! Service is quick and friendly and there are covered seats to get out of the drizzle or heat. Perfect for dogs and strollers, this spot is a must-visit for a truly local experience. Skip the Tim Hortons and head to Queen Garden Centre in Riverside for a great start to your morning. Free Wi-fi available, so it’s also a great spot for a digital nomad (though all seating is outside).

Hong Kong Island Dim Sim House

Head to Hong Kong Island Dim Sum House for their bakery! On the edge of Chinatown, this eatery offers some authentic flavors and tasty treats. They have some of the best custard pineapple buns outside of China, for CAD1.60. They also offer dumplings and baozi if you want something more filling. I stopped in several times for a few pastries to-go, which keep well until the next morning, or you can enjoy in house or at a local park. Cash only.

Old Flame Brewing & Distillery

There are many great breweries in town, but if you are looking to try lots of options at one time, Old Flame offers custom flights for great prices! Located in the famed Distillery District, this brewery has great indoor and outdoor seating, with a few snacks on offer and a food truck inside for further eats. I love their rotating seasonal specials and it’s a great meeting spot.

Seven Lives

I stopped into Seven Lives for a quick bite while shopping in Kensington Market. While it’s standing room only (no chairs for dining), this quick-serve taco shop is worth standing for! Try the octopus taco or the Gobernador, filled with smoked yellowfin tuna and shrimp. You can add your own salsa, but they are yummy as is!

Flying Books at Neverland

If you are looking for a hidden gem, head to Flying Books at Neverland for a great selection of books, and coffees, and wines, and even cocktails. Space is somewhat limited, but it’s such a cool concept. Sip a glass of wine or cup of coffee and peruse a new book. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

About the Author

Hi, I’m Jordan. I’m originally from Destin, Florida, but have lived in Nashville, TN for 10 years. I started this blog in 2022 when I left my career in finance to take an adult gap year… yep, that’s right at 35 years old! Since then I have traveled to 65+ countries, most of the time solo. I lived in China for 4 years and have backpacked around the world. I like to stretch my budget for things like good meals and scuba diving, but ultimately the local experience is what drives me to explore. I love meeting new people and learning about other cultures, traditions and life lessons. Thanks for being here!
