There are so many great books out there, as well as many different lists to cultivate new ideas – Reese’s Book Club, Oprah’s Book Club, Goodreads for the everyday reader. There is no shortage of favorites, but I have put together my own best reads from 2024. Here are my top 10 favorite fiction books from 2024:

I highly recommend listening to the audio version of The Dutch House, as it is narrated by Tom Hanks. The Dutch House is the story of a paradise lost, a tour de force that digs deeply into questions of inheritance, love and forgiveness, of how we want to see ourselves and of who we really are.
Jenny Jackson's debut novel, Pineapple Street is a hilarious look at three women living in the top 1% who I actually grew to empathize with, even though they say things like, “Oh no! I left my Cartier bracelet in Lena’s BMW and she’s leaving soon for her grandmother’s house in Southampton!” This smart, escapist novel sparkles with wit.
Twisting and suspenseful and surprisingly poignant, The Leftover Woman is a profound exploration of identity and belonging, motherhood and family. It is a story of two women in a divided city--separated by severe economic and cultural differences yet bound by a deep emotional connection to a child.
It’s the first adult novel for author Ashley Elston, and yet, it’s one of the best cat-and-mouse thrillers I’ve read in years. Who knows what? Who's playing who? First Lie Wins had me guessing until the end. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!
Think: Gilmore Girls. But with murder. This comical detective novel weaves the crazy lives of three generations of women into a murder mystery with their amateur sleuthing. Mother-Daughter Murder Night pulls you into the Rubicon women’s lives and the chaos that quickly follows.
I checked this book out no less than 3 times in the last 6 months before finally getting to sit down and read it. Having finished, I’m just sorry it took me so long to start! Remarkably Bright Creatures traces a widow’s unlikely connection to a giant Pacific octopus in her small town outside Seattle. Memorable and tender. I loved the narration by Marcellus (the octopus)!
A compelling debut novel that combines familial tragedy and redemption. One Summer in Savannah by Terah Shelton Harris is a natural pick for book clubs with so many different facets to discuss. It is a thought-provoking look at true forgiveness. Two wounded characters running away from secrets that have no real escape. I loved the quiet courage and strength of Sara.
A sweet romcom with an added pinch of sugar. Meet Me at the Cupcake Café is the first of two books that follow sweet Issy and her friends. It’s the perfect read while you curl up on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy this fresh novel that will take all Issy's courage - and confectionery - to avert disaster.
A beautifully written coming of age novel that follows a young girl and her mother’s harrowing experiences in a cockroach-infested apartment, a sweat shop in Chinatown and her never-ending determination to change their fate. Girl in Translation kept me turning the page for more.
10. The Retreat
Whether or not you’ve already read the first novel in the series (The Sanatorium), this one can stand alone. I loved going on another ride with the slightly neurotic detective. The suspense builds into a twisty ending that leaves you wanting more. The Retreat is juicy.
